I agree, I always get a sense of sadness at the Zoo. The atmosphere is often slightly eerie and macabre. I even made a photo story at London Zoo attesting to this. However, it can be argued that they may be the only solution to save certain species from extinction. Not just by preserving life but by providing a source of education. Moreover, it is human endeavour, whether hunting or deforestation that has endangered these animals. I think Zoo’s are a lesser evil, or even part of the solution- the real battle is elsewhere.

No animals should be kept in zoos. They are not created for human egotism.
