Every Chinese New Year Nagasaki lights up in a spectacular maze of lanterns. Spreading from China town outwards, the streets gleam with light and the rivers twinkle reflection. Thousands of people descend- to gawp at the display, eat Chinese street food and watch traditional dances.
This is the first of a few blog posts from the festival- a bridge illuminated by light, a slow shutter speed blurring the crowd as they bustle past.

I remember walking across this bridge. I studied abroad in Nagasaki City in 2007, and I am deeply nostalgic for it.

I am based in Yamaguchi, rural Japan. I have only been to Nagasaki the once but am considering going again. How long were you there for? Love your pictures with the splattering of words.

I was there for 10 months. I miss it a lot. I’m in video production now and trying to figure out a job in Japan. I’d ultimately like to get set up to produce narrative and documentary videos, but work with helping local communities.

Sounds interesting! Good luck with it all. I am here for another 3 months now. I need to figure where to go before I leave. Any ideas?

in Japan in general, or in Nagasaki? I loved going to the small island off Nagasaki city called Iojima. There’s an onsen there and some peaceful, if somewhat run down beaches.

I’m in Yamaguchi prefecture teaching English. Get the time to go off for weekend trips though! I might have a look into that island π
